Updates on the Traffic 5 replacement
As of the middle of July 2015, we are a bit behind schedule for what we originally expected completion of this project to be BUT, we are almost there and are hoping for delivery within the next few weeks. Through the help of fundraising events, donations from the community and businesses in East Pennsboro, and previous savings that the Fire Police have been doing for many years, we have been able to raise a significant amount of the total cost of this Traffic Unit. We STILL need your help though to continue to pay for the rest. Please see below for donation information.
On August 15th, 2015 we will be having an Apparatus Housing and Building Rededication at the old Citizen's Fire Station, 230 N. Enola Dr. Enola PA 17025. This event will kick off at 2pm and last about an hour overall. The housing is fire service tradition for new apparatus. The rededication is to provide the community with a look at how Northeast Fire and Rescue (2011 merger between Citizen's and Summerdale Fire Companies) is repurposing an old fire house to continue to serve the community. The old station part of this building has become the new home of the East Pennsboro Fire Police. The back social hall will become a Community Center for Kaylyn's Krusaders. Infomation for this 501-c3 organization can also be found on Facebook.
Lite refreshments will be available and ALL are welcome.
Please come out to help us celebrate not only our new Traffic Unit, but our new "Home"!
*********
The East Pennsboro Twp Fire Police (EPFP) have recently been operating two hand-me-down ambulances as traffic units. The original is a 1988 Chevy (Traffic 5A) and the newer was a 1999 Ford (Traffic 5). Both vehicles served honorably in the Emergency Medical Services. These vehicles were then obtained by the EPFP for use to assist in providing safety zones for our Fire, Police, and Ambulance services on emergency calls. These units have been instrumental in traffic control for parades, carnivals, and other community functions as well.
As
In January of 2014, Traffic 5 was involved in a traffic accident that resulted in the insurance company deeming the vehicle “totaled”. Traffic 5A continues to provide services when absolutely needed for equipment. While the vehicle passes the yearly vehicle inspection, this vehicle is no longer safe to operate regularly as an emergency vehicle.
EPFP have initiated the process to replace these units with a NEW traffic unit. While we have only recently begun this process, so far, there is great support from the four fire companies, the police department, and the Twp. officials for the replacement of this critical unit. Our intent is to provide updates on this site as to the progress of obtaining this new traffic unit that will serve you, the community.
EPFP will be actively holding fund raising events to help with the funding of this endeavor. The Volunteer Firemens Relief Assn of East Pennsboro Township will be sponsoring the purchase of this traffic unit.
